First, look at this ad about these two cats: http://www.catsinhalifax.ca/?p=630 - Then read their story:
Captain and Iris may not be perfect, but they sure are purrfect! These beautiful cats were found in a large cat colony left behind by a cat collector and hoarder when he died late April. The fellow lived in a squalid shack set in the woods, just off a busy road. The cats in the colony were fed and loved by the man, but otherwise suffered from neglect.
Captain and Iris stood out from the rest because they suffered from an eye infection that had basically destroyed the eye tissue (one eye each). Iris also has this crazy tail that loops up over her back and she was trailing around with 2 little kittens who had the same eye infection. The kittens were immediately treated with antibiotics and the infection quickly resolved. Such conditions, you see, are easily managed when you step in with the right treatment.
With Captain and Iris, one eye had to be surgically removed for each one of these cats, but the other eye is fine. Between the two of them, they have one complete set. You might say they?ve got eachother?s backs ? er ? sides!
Captain and Iris have been in foster care now for four months, doing beautifully, as recounted by their foster ?mom? below: ?They rub their faces against your leg and butt at your hand to be petted. And I haven?t seen them get tired of being petted yet. Captain lets me pick him up and place him on my lap, where he'll settle down and demand petting. They like to run ahead of me when I walk from room to room. The two cats are inseparable. Iris will lick Captain?s face and clean his ears for him, and the two will nuzzle together. They live in harmony with my other two cats, though they haven?t become fast friends yet. Iris and Captain prefer to wrestle with eachother, with Iris usually being the winner. She?s the more dominant one. She also always walks with her tail curled right up over her back, chirps when she gets up or notices something interesting, and her meow often comes out sounding almost like a hiss. They've also become comfortable with having new people around. They are happy, curious, sweet cats that love to be loved.?
Of course, Captain and Iris have now been spayed and neutered, tested for feline leukemia/AIDS, treated for parasites and their eyes properly treated.
We?d love for these two cats to go together. They'll get along well with other cats, as is the case with colony cats. They would probably fear dogs, as coyotes and other wildlife in the woods where they lived would have made them cautious of other such alien creatures. We would also prefer they be kept as indoor pets, as there are so many risks associated with allowing them outdoors.
Please help these deserving cats. They?ve already suffered so much in their short lives.
We are a registered charity run entirely by volunteers. We ask a minimum adoption donation of $100. In return, you receive a lifelong companion pet, a charitable tax receipt for your donation, and your new pet's veteriinary record.
